I toast my fellow Veterans.

I raise a toast to you, past, present, and future on this Veteran’s Day.

May you come home safely, to your family (both human and otherwise) and may your homecoming be tearful with joy.

If the strands of fate do not lean that way, may your afterlife forever be filled with the highest honor. I light a second candle for you – I will leave an offering for those who came home in spirit. You may be gone, but I will never forget.

On my harmonica, I play Taps for you, in your memory and to those still with us. There are lyrics to Taps:

Fad-ing light dims the sight,

and a star gems the sky

gleaming bright,

From a-far drawing nigh falls the night.
